A Process Server is someone who notifies a party that there is a pending legal action against them in a court of law.
The process server accomplishes this by physically going to the address where the person is known to be located, and handing them a court document, such as a Summons, Subpoena, Order to Appear, or some other document which has been issued by the court.
Next, the process server files a return of service with the court clerk, to confirm that the service has been completed. Only then can the case move forward.
In Florida all service of process must be completed by a Certified Process Server. A Certified Process Server is court appointed, completes training which is mandated by state law. In addition, every Certified Process Server appointed is required to submit to a background check completed by and through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE).
